Will A Distraction Free Environment Free You To Focus Better?
One of the things I hear from so many people is they want to improve their ability to focus. If they just had a distraction free environment, they could get the right things done. Well, I’m writing this from one of those distraction free environments, from one of the booths they have at the airport where you can use it to make video calls and have privacy. From inside the booth, there are no outside sounds that can be heard and even the glass on the door is frosted so there are no visual distractions. What’s more, these booths often offer additional features such as adjustable lighting levels and comfortable chairs which help make the workspace more conducive to productivity. With all of these things taken into account, it’s easy to see why using an airport focus booth could be an excellent way to get work done when you’re traveling or away from your normal workspace.
The reality is, the perfect space is not the only thing that’s required to focus. There are two other things.
One is that you have to have a clearly defined goal or objective for that time you want to focus.
If you’re too vague, saying something like, “I need to work on a project”, your brain will give you a thousand other things that you could do besides work on that. Instead, make sure that your objectives are specific and measurable. Examples would be statements like, “I’m going to create a rough draft outline of the project” or “I’m going to create three objectives for the project” or “I’m going to make a list of all the people who need to be involved in the project”. Have a specific goal and outcome for that time you’re wanting to focus. Taking the time to plan out your objectives in advance will help you stay on task and increase your productivity, so that you can get things done.
The other thing that’s important is that you have the physical and mental energy in order to actively focus on something. If not, you are going to become distracted. You’re going to become tired. You might even take a nap when you’re trying to concentrate.💤 It’s important to ensure you have enough energy; physical and mental fatigue can lead to difficulty paying attention and an inability to retain what you’re learning or working on. Tiredness causes a dip in concentration and ability to stay focused for long periods of time. Staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, and eating regularly are all great ways of ensuring your body has the necessary resources for focus. If you find yourself feeling overly fatigued, take a momentary break and come back when you feel more energized. With the right energy reserves, you can overcome distractions and get things done effectively. With enough practice, focus will become easier and more natural over time.
Ultimately, success in any venture — whether that be work or pleasure — requires a combination of focused energy and dedication. Taking steps to create an organized and distraction-free environment will do wonders to aid you in your efforts, but be sure not to forget the importance of clarity surrounding your goals — their definition allows you to measure the progress you make over time. Remaining aware of both your physical and mental energies is also key; don’t underestimate the power of taking a break when it’s needed. With all the pieces in place, you can thrive no matter where work takes you!
